OneNet has a new strategic communications intern in Jessica Todd. Jessica has previously performed public relations work for the Oklahoma National Guard and the University of Oklahoma’s Reserve Officer Training Corps by collecting research, writing feature stories and helping with social media. Now, she is bringing her talents to the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education in the OneNet department, where she will also be writing feature stories and creating content for the OneNet website.
“I really like doing public relations work, although we call it public affairs in the Army,” said Jessica. “My favorite experience in the field was having two of my stories published when I was in the Oklahoma National Guard Mobile Public Affairs Detachment.”
Jessica interviewed for the position while interning at Walt Disney World using Zoom web conferencing, a partner company of OneNet. Despite being at ‘the most magical place on earth,’ Jessica had a lot to say about OneNet.
“I absolutely could not wait to begin working at OneNet,” said Jessica. “I have been reading about them ever since seeing the job posting and was so impressed by how many services OneNet provided to the state. I mean, did you know that they help with connecting OETA broadcast towers so that Oklahomans can watch PBS? It’s true.”
Jessica, a senior, is a non-traditional student at the University of Oklahoma where she is studying public relations. After graduating from the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics, Jessica attended OU for one year before leaving to become a soldier in the active duty Army. She then went to the associate degree-granting program at the Defense Language Institute to learn Arabic. Afterward, Jessica attended another school in the Army known as Advanced Individual Training for Cryptological Linguist, where she learned how to analyze simple and complex communications, transcribe and translate Arabic into English. Jessica served a total of three and half years in the active duty before transitioning into the Oklahoma National Guard to finally finish her bachelor’s degree at OU. Now that her educational track has come full circle, she appreciates it that much more she says.
We certainly appreciate her and are happy to have her be a part of the OneNet team.
