Broken Bow Public Schools Builds Better-Prepared Students
Broken Bow Public Schools’ staff and teachers have one goal: to build better-prepared students by supporting their education goals with technology and modern skills. The district strives towards a clear mission to help students know and live their potential. Through this mission, the school provides excellence in instruction that recognizes students’ worth as individuals.
Broken Bow Public Schools believes that giving students access to current technology and skills can prepare them for life beyond high school, whether college, a career, or something else.
“At Broken Bow Public Schools, we are committed to staying current to provide our students with skills they can apply to their future careers and/or educational endeavors,” said Christy Hannah, technology director of Broken Bow Public Schools.
Broken Bow is in McCurtain County in southeastern Oklahoma, about 16 miles west of the Arkansas border. With four schools, the district serves 1,663 students, fulfilling their education needs and preparing them for their career goals.
Building Better-Prepared Students
At Broken Bow, the district truly strives to build better-prepared students, offering a variety of programs and courses aiming to expand and enrich students’ academic
experience. The school has added unique courses such as creative writing, culinary arts, and safety courses to high school programs. They also teach tech-focused courses, preparing students for the future with modern, tech-savvy skills.
These modern tech courses include digital art and animation skills. New courses include Esports, video and audio production, aeronautics, and
more. These courses help students find their passions and perfect their talents.
“We have many sports and student activity groups, including Esports, robotics, aviation, animation, digital art, and more. We are trying to help every student find their niche,” said Hannah.
Technology Investments
Broken Bow is investing in technology to support its mission of building better-prepared students. One significant way the school has integrated technology into the curriculum is by implementing a 1-to-1 device program. This means that every student from Pre-K to high school has access to their own Chromebook. Broken Bow’s technology director notes that the commitment to new technology has created more opportunities for students beyond the classroom.
“Over the last five years, the school has invested in modern devices and the software needed to prepare students for real-world challenges,” said Hannah.
These technology deployments support the school’s education goals by reinforcing how students learn. These new additions benefit not only the students but also the district. With each initiative, the district expands its efforts to improve programs and ensure they are adequate for students’ growth.
Looking Ahead
What’s next for Broken Bow Public Schools? The district will stay updated with technologies and services and will do its best to ensure that Broken Bow students have all available resources to succeed. It is committed to adding new ideas and programs to aid student growth.
“We are committed to staying up to date to provide our students with skills they can apply to their future careers and/or educational endeavors,” said Hannah.
Recently, the district upgraded its internet connectivity through OneNet to support this commitment.
“We have replaced all of our network infrastructure and moved from a 2Gbps connection to a 5Gbps connection to give our students and programs fast and stable access to the internet,” Hannah said.
By focusing on strong internet connectivity, reliable technology, and a wide range of learning opportunities, Broken Bow sets a great example of how rural schools can adapt to the digital age. The right investments in people and tools can make a difference even when resources are limited.
Internet for Rural Schools
Since upgrading connectivity through OneNet, Broken Bow can support students’ educational goals by keeping them connected to modern technology through high-speed internet. With OneNet connectivity, Broken Bow staff, teachers, and students do not have to worry about unreliable connections and interruptions. This connectivity is vital since many students do not have access to reliable internet at home.
“OneNet has a trusted history of providing fast, reliable internet service to rural areas…keeping us up and running, limiting interruptions to daily operations,” Hannah said.
“OneNet delivers high-speed internet to schools across Oklahoma to ensure rural districts aren’t left behind in an increasingly digital world,” said John Hennessey, associate vice chancellor for Information Technology and OneNet. “For many rural communities like Broken Bow, access to reliable internet empowers schools to remove limitations and create new opportunities.”
More to Come
Broken Bow Public Schools is a great example of what’s possible when a school puts students first and commits to using technology as a tool for learning and growth. With fast internet, modern devices, and a clear vision, the district is helping students not only keep up but stand out.
