Happy Holidays 2025 from OneNet!

Dear Loyal OneNet Friend,

As 2025 comes to a close, OneNet would like to extend our sincerest thanks to you for your continued support of our mission to advance research and education for Oklahoma’s citizens. Our successes in serving Oklahoma’s research, education, health care, and government communities with high-speed internet would not be possible without our loyal friends.

This year, we focused on two areas—a statewide 400G upgrade to our research backbone and expansion of our research network, the OneOklahoma Friction Free Network.

400G Upgrade

OneNet’s upgrade to 400G on our research backbone is driven by the ever-increasing bandwidth requirements for the subscribers OneNet serves, led by the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University. Our engineering team upgraded our connections to the Great Plains Network and Internet2 to 400G. We deployed 400G equipment at 27 hubsites from Elk City in the west to Sallisaw in the east. We are also increasing our connection to Dallas from three 100G links to two 400G links to facilitate nationwide and global internet traffic. This upgrade positions OneNet to meet our subscribers’ bandwidth requirements for the next few years.

OneOklahoma Friction Free Network

This year, OneNet wrapped up two projects to expand the OneOklahoma Friction Free Network, Oklahoma’s science DMZ. The OFFN network provides higher education institutions with a specialized internet connection dedicated to research and education. In addition, it provides a pathway to connect with other resources, such as supercomputers, that empower access to more sophisticated capabilities for students and faculty who are not geographically limited. When we complete all our current OFFN projects, OneNet will connect a total of 31 college and university locations across the state to the network.

Looking to the Future

In 2025, we completed our 29th year serving Oklahomans. That means next year is our 30th anniversary. We are looking forward to celebrating this milestone with our subscribers, partners, vendors and friends throughout the communities we serve.

As part of this celebration, we recognize the vital services each of our subscribers provides to their communities. Our subscribers serve students, patients, researchers and community members. We recognize that the connectivity OneNet provides plays a crucial role in subscribers’ success in fulfilling their missions, and we are committed to offering the highest level of service and support possible.

For this holiday season, we wish each of you a happy holiday and success in the new year.

—The OneNet Team
