OneNet’s Accounts Payable Supervisor

Detailed, competitive and happy are three words that describe Norma McCann – and they are all essential when it comes to serving as OneNet’s accounts payable supervisor.

McCann joined the OneNet team in June 2014 and is responsible for reviewing and approving invoices for payment, acting as a liaison between OneNet and its vendors and assisting with end-of-the-year budget preparation. Her attention to detail and competitive drive are skills she uses every day to prevent past due invoices and to maintain relationships with vendors.

Developing and maintaining rapport with vendors requires honesty, respect and trust. A healthy vendor relationship fosters open communication, which is important for McCann and her department.

“When I have a strong relationship with a vendor, I feel comfortable communicating with the vendor directly,” said McCann. “Open communication simplifies the invoice paying process, so my department can continue to focus on what is important — providing quality services to OneNet customers.”

McCann also oversees OneNet’s purchasing department and fixed assets department. Managing a highly diverse team can be worthwhile, and McCann believes leveraging her team’s various skillsets is more rewarding than it is challenging.

“Working with such a diverse team is rewarding because each person on my team is an expert in their field and requires little supervision,” said McCann. “The trust we have makes it easy for me to concentrate on other tasks that need my attention.”

Many people may not know that McCann earned her accredited payables manager (APM) certification in order to better serve OneNet customers. This certification demonstrates McCann’s commitment to accuracy and compliance and places her in an exclusive group of accounts payable professionals whose skills are proven to exceed excellence.

Despite her credentials, McCann admits that before she started her career at OneNet, she had some ambiguity about OneNet’s purpose. However, once she joined the team she quickly realized how passionate OneNet employees are about empowering communities across Oklahoma.

“Once I started working, I really saw the passion for the product,” said McCann. “It’s refreshing to see a group of people that care so much about their customers and the communities they serve.”

While invoices and budget spreadsheets dominate McCann’s time at work, her spare time revolves around reading and spending time with her friends and family.

“When I’m by myself, I enjoy relaxing and reading a good book,” said McCann. “But when I’m with my family, we love to play board games.”

McCann’s favorite quote says, “If you want to be successful it’s just this simple. Know what you are doing. Love what you are doing. And believe in what you are doing.” She keeps the quote on a sticky-note on her desk to serve as a daily reminder to hold true to these values each day.
